Quadrangle FestivalIt was a busy weekend! I attended the Quadrangle Festival in Texarkana. We were campaigning out of the Texarkana Women’s GOP club booth and it was a great success for all. I must have spoken with over 1500 constituents, which provided me the opportunity to find out about the local issues as well concerns they have for our nation as a whole. They expressed concerns involving the lack of proper representation in Bowie county and their desire for the politicians of Washington to turn an ear toward their concerns. When national concerns arose I continued to hear the same argument from each person I spoke with, immigration, a strong military presence, and taxes, they felt are the top issues that need to be addressed in the upcoming election. To my delight we, the Republican Women and I were also able to register many new voters, which is a great success in itself! Everyone deserves to have a voice and a vote. I was given the opportunity to meet and greet with Kevin George one of my running mates in the 4th District Congressional Race. He has agreed to schedule debates around the district, which I am looking forward to and hoping that the other candidates in the 4th Congressional Race will be just as willing. I am back in the campaign office today and working diligently for the upcoming weekend in which we will be back in Texarkana for the Four States Fair on late Saturday afternoon and Sunday. I will as well be in Pittsburg for Chick Fest on Saturday and the Fish Fry Friday Night. And I am very excited to say that my son Shawn is coming in town from California to join in on the weekend festivities. My campaign manager Rick Neudorff will be in Celina at the Fun Day festival so make sure and stop by to show your support! I am sorry I can’t be at all the events this weekend but I am ever grateful for my the support I have been shown throughout the counties of the 4th District. Feel free to comment on this bog as I am always interested in hearing your comments and feedback.

I have been busy these past couple of weeks getting things organized and set up so that after Labor day we will be prepared to head into the campaign season. My wife Cheryl and I had the opportunity to meet with the lovely women of the Star of Texas Women’s Republican group, in Texarkana on Tuesday the 28th. I was invited to have dinner and speak with the women about the issues we are fighting for in this campaign. It was such a pleasure to meet with the women and find out the happenings in Bowie county and not only their concern for our district as a whole but also the issues which apply solely to Bowie county. I believe there is a lot to be accomplished throughout our district and if we all pull together like the women of the Star of Texas, we can succeed. Cheryl and I stayed the night in Texarkana and were able to take in the sights of downtown. Upon returning back to Celina on Wednesday we had an all day strategy and planning meeting with our Campaign Director, Rick Neudorff, and the rest of our staff. WE will be fully represented at the straw poll in Fort Worth this weekend. I am very excited about the opportunity that the Straw Poll will afford me to meet with people and get the issues out. I will update you all as to how the weekend turned out. It is my hope that you all will have a safe and happy Labor Day.

Recently my wife Cheryl and I were treated to a tour of the North point Cancer Center by one of the cofounders, Dr. Ed Gilbert; who had previously held the head position of The Lance Armstrong Cancer Center. The state of the art facility holds one of only seven radiation machines in the U.S that is capable of narrowing down treatment to a millimeters width. Dr. Gilbert and his associates also shared what really mattered to them, and that is their patients and the future they hope to provide. For more information on Dr Gilbert and his state of the art facility go to ——-.
After the heavy rains in Grayson county I began inquiring about the Sherman, TX flood victims. I was told by the Red Cross that there was a desperate need for volunteers. Although the victims from the nursing home were being returned to the Home that evening there were however some sixty other victims who remained at a shelter. Those remaining, needed to be fed both Wednesday evening as well as Thursday morning. The Red Cross also needed help transporting the victims and the belongings they could gather with them in lieu of the flood. Between me, my wife Cheryl and two members of my campaign were able to address all of the needs and continue to work with these victims as new issues arise. Though all victims at the shelter touched the hearts of many one man in particular stood out to me. Mr. James Birdwell who has limited mobility due to arthritis was unable to be adequately cared for by the members of the Red Cross at the shelter. Doing all their funds would allow for Mr. Birdwell, he had been set up in a motel for a few nights. He still however was in need of food and company. This was something I was eager to do. I have continued to keep in contact with Mr. Birdwell and now consider him a part of the family. “He has no one, he is alone and we have a family and he has a place in it. He will always have a place in our family, I am so honored God chose me to be a part of James life.
Wednesday July 11th, the tone was set in quiet a different style yet nonetheless just as exciting. Cheryl and I made the acquaintance of Republican Presidential candidate, Mr. Rudy Guliani and members of his staff. Though the engagement was brief we were delighted to meet him and exchange hopes for the 2008 elections. Wednesday evening also offered Cheryl and I the opportunity to meet with another influential politician this time on the State level. Hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Norris (son of Chuck Norris) at the Texas movie premier of Bella; I was able to speak with the Texas state Governor Rick Perry who presented the movie.
Thursday July 19th was a day in Texarkana Invited by Mr. Mark Graves they were scheduled to attend the Texas Republican Women’s monthly GOP meeting. I was greeted with open arms, wonderful food, and fantastic entertainment which included the opportunity to listen to the guest speaker of the night, Texas Secretary of State Rodger Williams. Mr. Williams stressed the importance of encouraging every eligible citizen to vote in the upcoming election, young and old. Mr. Williams also stressed the importance of Texas leading the nations way for voter turn out numbers. The encouragement of voters is at the top of the campaign to do for all of those working on my campaign.
As I continue to travel around the district I enjoy meeting with people from many different backgrounds with different interests.
